The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka remembers with profound respect and gratitude Mr. Shirantha Peiris, a valued Member of the Independent Selection Committee, whose dedication to sport, leadership, and human transformation enriched our Olympic movement and the wider community.
 
Mr. Peiris was a visionary professional and mentor, serving as the Managing Director and Founder of Personal Development Training Institute (Pvt.) Ltd, where he guided countless individuals toward personal and professional growth. A proud alumnus of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Torrens University Australia, he combined academic excellence with practical leadership, holding qualifications as a licensed Human Resource Practitioner certified by the American Institute of Business Management, USA.
 
His professional journey included key roles within the management teams of SriLankan Airlines and Etihad Airways, reflecting his expertise in hospitality and organizational leadership. He also served as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management and as a Council Member of the National Youth Corps, contributing meaningfully to youth development and vocational advancement.
 
A passionate sportsman in his youth, Mr. Peiris earned College and Sri Lanka Schools Colors in basketball and rugby, was named Sportsman of the Year in 1983, and was honored with the prestigious Josephian Blue Award. His lifelong commitment to inclusive sport was evident through his volunteer coaching work with the Sri Lanka Army wheelchair basketball team and his leadership of volunteers supporting the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
 
Within the Olympic framework, Mr. Peiris contributed thoughtfully to athlete development initiatives, including designing evaluation criteria aligned with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Solidarity scholarship pathway. His insight, mentorship, and belief in athlete potential inspired many to pursue excellence with discipline and confidence.
 
His influence continues to resonate across the sporting and professional communities he served. Mr. Peiris will be remembered not only for his achievements, but for his generosity of spirit, commitment to empowerment, and unwavering support for athletes and youth.
 
The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy will remain an enduring source of inspiration to our Olympic family!

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC SL) was inaugurated on 8th April 1937 at a meeting of representatives of Athletic, Swimming and Boxing Associations. As resolved on this day, the first meeting of the Ceylon Olympic and Empire Games Association was held on 30th April 1937.
