August 5, 2024 - Today, Tharushi Karunarathna handed over one of her competition kits to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for display in the prestigious IOC Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The autographed kit was ceremoniously presented to Ms. Anne Jaccard, Senior Manager of Exhibits and Programs at the IOC Museum, during a ceremonial event held at the Olympic Village. This momentous occasion underscores the significance of Tharushi's standard in athletics and her role as a trailblazer for Sri Lankan sports.
In recognition of her donation and the honor it brings, Tharushi will receive a certificate signed by the IOC President Thomas Bach. This certificate, a symbol of international recognition, will be sent to her by post, further commemorating her exceptional achievement.
This opportunity not only highlights Tharushi Karunarathna's personal success on the global sports stage but also brings great pride and recognition to Sri Lanka.
It is also noteworthy to mention here that this initiation was proposed by Mr. Maxwell de Silva, the Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka.
