Sri Lanka's Final Sprint: A Proud Finish at the 9th Asian Winter Games

The cross-country skiing event of the 9th Asian Winter Games continued on February 10 at the Yabuli Ski Resort in Harbin. Under the theme “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia,” the competition stood as the flagship winter sports event of the year. Representing our small island nation, three skilled Sri Lankan skiers took to the snowy tracks to make their mark.

 

Sajeev De Silva, Madhura Shehan, and Asian Winter Games debutant Dhanushka Bandara participated in the men’s 10km freestyle cross-country skiing event at 11:00 AM local time (8:30 AM IST). Carrying the hopes of 22 million people, they raced with pride. Debutant Dhanushka Bandara finished with an impressive timing of 51:15:7 at 44th place. Following him, Madhura Shehan clocked 1:09:44:6 at 45th place and Sajeev De Silva timed 1:12:03:4 at 46th place. Their dedication and fighting spirit made every Sri Lankan proud.

 

With this event, Sri Lanka’s journey at the 9th Asian Winter Games comes to an end. Racing through the snow-covered tracks of Harbin, our athletes showcased immense courage in representing their motherland. Their performances and spirit will inspire generations of Sri Lankan athletes to dream bigger, reach higher, and believe that even the coldest challenges can be conquered with heart and determination.
