Sri Lanka's Beach Volleyball Boys Dominate with Double Wins in Bahrain

Manama, 21 October 2025 – Team Sri Lanka continued to make its mark at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, with the Beach Volleyball Boys’ Team emerging as the standout performers of the day, securing two impressive victories to top their preliminary pool.

 

The dynamic duo of Didula Maheema and Kusal Dulmina Sandaruwan produced back-to-back wins that highlighted their skill and teamwork on the sand courts. In their first encounter, the pair defeated Maldives 2–1 (21–15, 12–21, 15–7) after a tightly contested battle. They followed it up with another strong performance, edging past Qatar 2–1 (21–18, 8–21, 15–12) to record their third consecutive victory of the tournament, remaining undefeated.

 

Meanwhile, in Kabaddi, both the Boys’ and Girls’ Teams delivered spirited performances in the Group A Preliminary Rounds.

 

In the Boys’ Category, Sri Lanka fought hard in two challenging encounters. They registered a thrilling 50–49 victory against Thailand, displaying remarkable determination and tactical awareness. Later in the day, they went up against Pakistan, who won 55–36. The Sri Lankan squad, comprising Dasun Theekshana, Thilina Weerasuriya, Lasitha Pradeep Kumara, Sahan Rashmika, Sahan Iduwara Kulathunga, Pirathaap Karunakaran, Mohammed Milhan Mahi, Madusha Dilshara, Mohammed Niyaaf Zaini, Thisara Denuwan Pushpa Kumara, Mohammed Samri, Sithum Sathsara Samarasinghe, Tharusha Nimsara, and Mothisha Tashmika, displayed teamwork, discipline, and fighting spirit throughout.

 

Meanwhile, in the Girls’ Category, Team Sri Lanka, comprising Amashi Sharanya, Rashmini Nikesha Eshani, Prabudhi Abhilasha, Sanjana Rukshani Bandara, Nethmini Hirushika, Dulakshi Deshani Perera, Lukshani Selwaraj, Amalsha Sayurangi, Thiyakarasa Nishalini, Denethi Theekshana, Pithursha Theiventhiran, Malmi Sanjana Samaranayake, Pusparasa Thirushsana, and Hashini Akarshani Perera, faced a determined Bangladesh side in the Preliminary Round, going down 47–40 after a closely fought contest.

 

With the Beach Volleyball Boys’ pair continuing their unbeaten run and the Kabaddi teams showing fighting spirit, Team Sri Lanka’s young athletes are steadily gaining momentum as the Games progress in Bahrain.
