Updated Date: 24th October, 2025

Manama, 24 October 2025 – Sri Lanka’s young athletes shone once again at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, bringing home two bronze medals in Athletics as the contingent continued to deliver determined performances across multiple sports on Day 3 of competition in Bahrain.

The highlight of the day came from the track and field, where Chathura Dulanjana clinched a bronze medal in the Boys’ Javelin Throw with an impressive effort of 62.51 metres. Soon after, Sri Lanka celebrated another podium finish when Shanuka Costa powered his way to a bronze medal in the Boys’ 400m Final, clocking a personal best time of 47.72 seconds. Both performances reflected the rising standard of Sri Lanka’s youth athletics and boosted the team’s growing medal tally in Bahrain.

On the golf course, Sri Lanka’s talented duo, Kaya Daluwatte and Reshan Algama, continued to impress as the tournament entered its decisive stages at the Royal Golf Club. Kaya built on her outstanding start with a brilliant eight-under-par 64 on Round 2, ending with an overall score of 11-under-par 133. She finished the day tied for second place alongside three golfers from China and Singapore, just one stroke behind the leader, China’s Menghan Li. Reshan maintained his composure in the Boys’ division, carding a solid two-under-par 70 to finish tied for seventh with a total of 144 strokes, keeping Sri Lanka in medal contention as the final round approached. Meanwhile, Jevahn Sathasivam and Adhithya Weerasinghe finished in the lower half of the 51-player field. The Sri Lankan Boys’ Team concluded the second round ranked 11th with a combined score of 154.

Basketball action saw both the boys’ and girls’ teams put up spirited displays in their group matches. The boys, represented by Himaru Tissera, Vijan Nethmika Ferdinando, Rasindu Nimsara Gunawardhana, and Aaron Gerald, recorded victories against Bangladesh (21–6) and Yemen (22–16) after an earlier defeat to Iran (7–21). The girls’ team, featuring Tinara Perera, Sithuki Sihansa Kodagoda, Pramuditha Chandrasekara, and Binuthi Jayasinghe, also produced commendable results, defeating Maldives (19–14), Palestine (20–14), and Mongolia (14–10), following an opening loss to India (6–21).

In the boxing ring, Sri Lanka’s Binul Dulnada delivered a dominant display in the Boys’ 46kg preliminary round, securing a 5–0 unanimous decision over Hsu Chung Wei of Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, the Sri Lankan boys’ team faced a tough challenge against Thailand, falling in straight sets (13–21, 15–21), while maintaining high morale as they look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.

Sri Lanka’s track and field contingent also continued to show promise in other events. Methuka Malhiru placed sixth in the Boys’ 400m Hurdles Round 1 Heat 2 with a timing of 58.42 seconds, while P. H. Amaya impressed with a second-place finish in her heat of the Girls’ 400m Hurdles, clocking 1:03.00, qualifying for the final. Middle-distance runner Nethan Willaddara rounded off the day for the athletic contingent with a strong third-place finish in his 800m heat, timing 1:58.08, qualifying for the final.

With two more bronze medals added to the nation’s tally and multiple athletes still in contention, Team Sri Lanka’s campaign at the 3rd Asian Youth Games continues to gain momentum as the young stars proudly carry the island’s hopes on the international stage in Bahrain.
