PRESS RELEASE: Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka Welcomes eqUIP Interns for an Orientation Programme in Dambulla

Updated Date: 30th March, 2025

Colombo, March 30, 2025 - The Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) of Sri Lanka, with the support of Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), is set to host an orientation programme for eqUIP interns in Sri Lanka from April 1-4, 2025. This initiative aims to equip young sports professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive positive change in their respective countries.

The eqUIP internship programme is a flagship initiative under the CGF, designed to develop young leaders from across the Commonwealth through hands-on experience in sports administration, governance, and development. This year, the programme brings together four interns from Bangladesh, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for fostering regional collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The orientation programme in Dambulla will be led by esteemed resource persons, including Richard de Groen, Head of Programmes & Investment of the CGF and Olympian Melody Cooper, Regional Development Manager, Oceania and Asia of the CGF. The workshop aims to provide an enriching experience for both interns and supervisors by fostering personal development, enhancing transferable skills, and encouraging networking beyond comfort zones. It will serve as a platform for shared learning between interns and supervisors while also ensuring that clear objectives are set through the creation and updating of workplans. Additionally, the programme will cultivate a collaborative team environment that embraces fun and enjoyment as integral elements of the learning process.

“We are delighted to welcome the eqUIP interns and delegates to Sri Lanka. CGA Sri Lanka is looking forward to engage and enrich orientation programs during next few days. This initiative is a testament to our commitment, nurturing the next generation of sports leaders in the Commonwealth,” said Mr. Suresh Subramaniam, President of the CGA Sri Lanka.

The CGA Sri Lanka encourages all participants to take full advantage of this unique learning experience and looks forward to the positive impact they will make in their respective nations.
