Colombo, October 02, 2024 - National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka is proud to announce its official participation in the TAFISA World Walking Day – 24 Hours Around the Globe together with Vibe Fit, a global relay to create a better world through sport and physical activity.
On October 6, 2024, at 10 AM local time, be part of the most accessible and inclusive 24-hour global relay! Together, let’s pass the baton and connect the world in this planet-wide relay from east to west.

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, in partnership with Vibe Fit, will host a special fitness event on October 4, 2024 (Friday) from 11:00 AM onwards at the Sri Lanka Olympic House, Colombo 7. Participants will engage in a dynamic fitness session that includes spinning and other fitness practices, led by expert instructors Chanditha Samarasinghe and Alberto Ruiz from Vibe Fit. Following this, they will have the exciting opportunity to play badminton alongside Olympian Niluka Karunaratne at the Singhalese Sports Club Badminton Court. The event will conclude with a refreshing walk from the Olympic House to the badminton court, fostering camaraderie and Olympic spirit.
Since its first edition, millions of participants from over 160 countries have taken part in TAFISA World Walking Day, celebrating active movement and raising awareness of important social causes. This year's event will continue this tradition, with participants from across the globe using the sport and physical activity platform to pass the baton for their community causes and, in doing so, walking together towards peace, access to sport and education, gender equality, health, and solidarity in the most inclusive and accessible 24-hour relay on Earth.
How You Can Get Involved in the Most Inclusive 24-Hour Relay
The event encourages people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and beliefs to join by choosing their favorite form of active movement—be it walking, running, cycling, swimming, skateboarding, or any other activity. Participants are invited to share photos and videos of themselves and their friends passing the baton on social media using the hashtag #worldwalkingday. This flexible format allows participants to support a cause of their choice raising awareness on a global platform.
Join us in this global movement! TAFISA World Walking Day is open to everyone from TAFISA member organizations, municipalities to individuals, everyone is invited to register for free to host their own events and receive resources and support to be part of this global celebration. Multiple events of different types and scales can be organized to ensure everyone can participate.

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC SL) was inaugurated on 8th April 1937 at a meeting of representatives of Athletic, Swimming and Boxing Associations. As resolved on this day, the first meeting of the Ceylon Olympic and Empire Games Association was held on 30th April 1937.
