Lanka now looking for a bronze

Updated Date: 1st December, 2019

The Lankan Volleyball team came with a much improved performance today against the much fancied Indians in their semi-final clash, but the ultimate was a carbon copy of the game against Pakistan which was played yesterday. The final result at the Main  Games Centre at Dasharath Rangashala Tripureshwor, Kathmandu read as Sri Lanka being beaten by India at 3-1(25-27, 19-25, 25-21 & 21- 25).

The result expected was a roll over by the Indians, in comparison to their win against hosts Nepal two days ago. But, it was not to be. The Lankans in reality fought every inch barring the second set which they lost at 25-21.

Now that the Lankans are relegated to a bronze and the opponent will be known only after the Pakistan vs Nepal game which will take place this afternoon; prior to the official opening of the games which also will be held this evening at the same venue. The Bronze clash will be held on Monday.

The first set was close in its real meaning. It was a ding-ding battle for supremacy which the Indians just managed to stay ahead. But, second set for the Lanka was a disaster.  The gap between the two sides read at much as 6 points when they lost at 25-19.

The Lankans roared back in the third set to win at 25-21 in a hard fought battle which the Lankans looked the certain winners right through the exchanges. Then in the fourth set the Indians were back with all their guns blazing; but the Lankans managed to keep abreast; but in the final few minutes some hasty moves cost them the fourth set and the game.
