In Memoriam: A Legacy Beyond the Finish Line
Updated Date: 17th July, 2026
“We bid farewell to our former President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, a dear friend, mentor, and fearless leader who paved the way for critical change in sports administration in our country.
“My association with Suresh spans several decades, beginning at Sri Lanka Tennis and continuing through our journey together at the National Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka.
“He gave me, and everyone who had the privilege of working with him, his unwavering support in every aspect of sports development. Towards the end of his tenure, he placed his trust in me to succeed him as President of the National Olympic Committee, ensuring continuity in the work and reforms he had so passionately begun.
“I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand his unwavering commitment to the development of sport, his courage to make difficult decisions that others considered controversial or too challenging, and his genuine care for athletes, coaches, and administrators alike.
“Suresh firmly believed that sport had the power to change lives, and he dedicated his own life to creating opportunities for others. Whether in tennis, where he left an indelible mark, or within the Olympic Movement, where he championed integrity, good governance, excellence, and greater support for athletes and sports organisations, he always led with humility, conviction, and compassion.
“His legacy is firmly etched in the lives he touched and in the stronger future he helped shape for Sri Lankan sport. While he will be deeply missed, his vision, values, and unwavering commitment to excellence will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
“On behalf of the entire Olympic family of Sri Lanka, I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Ranjitha, daughter Dushinka, son Revantha, son-in-law Arul, daughter-in-law Deepa, brothers Ravi, Yogan and Ganen, sister Keshi and the entire Subramaniam family during this difficult time.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace!”
Asanga Seneviratne
President
National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka
"It is with immense sadness that we mourn the passing of a leader whose dedication to sport was truly a lifelong calling. Although I had the privilege of working alongside him during the latter part of his second tenure as President, that time was enough to witness the remarkable passion, wisdom, and quiet determination that defined his leadership. Every decision he made was driven by one simple purpose: to leave Sri Lankan sport stronger than he found it.
“Suresh was respected not because of the office he held, but because of the person he was. He led with humility, listened with sincerity, and inspired confidence through his integrity and unwavering belief in doing what was right. His contributions extended far beyond our shores, earning him admiration across the Olympic Movement and the Asian sporting community.
“While we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life devoted to service, a legacy of principled leadership, and a vision that will continue to inspire generations of athletes and sports administrators. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife, Ranjitha, and his family during this difficult time.
“May he rest in eternal peace!"
