CGF Executive Board election shortlist announced ahead of General Assembly in November

The full list of candidates in the running for President, Vice Presidents, Regional Vice Presidents and Sport Committee Members for the Commonwealth Games Federation is announced today, with the elections taking place at this year’s General Assembly held in Singapore in November.

 

Today, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announces the candidates for election to President and other Members of the Executive Board following a review of nominations by the CGF’s independent Elections Panel.

 

There are two candidates running for CGF President: 

Chris Jenkins (Wales) 

Kereyn Smith (New Zealand)

 

The incoming President will be responsible for leading the Commonwealth Sport Movement over the next four years and helping to shape the Games into the future.

 

The CGF is also pleased to announce that the following have been nominated as candidates for the three Vice President positions:

Hugh Graham (Cook Islands)

Barry Hendricks (South Africa)

Sandra Osborne (Barbados)

Richard Powers (Canada)

Ian Reid (Scotland)

Dr Donald Rukare (Uganda)

Dr P T Usha (India)

 

Candidates in the running for Regional Vice Presidents have been named as follows:

Africa: Colonel Botsang Tshenyego (Botswana)

Americas: Judy Simons (Bermuda)

Asia: Christopher Chan (Singapore); Maxwell DeSilva (Sri Lanka); Dr P T Usha (India) 

Caribbean: Ephraim Penn (British Virgin Islands)

Europe: Louise Mackie (England); Harry Murphy (Gibraltar); Helen Philips (Wales)

Oceania: Craig Philips (Australia)

 

Sports Committee member candidates have also been announced as:

Africa: Penalva Cézar (Mozambique); Hon Jappie Mhango (Malawi)

Americas: Andrew Brownlee (Falkland Islands)

Asia: Lt Gen Harpal Singh (India)

Caribbean: Cliff Williams (Antigua & Barbuda)

Europe: Francesca Carter-Kelly (England)

Oceania: Antoine Boudier (Vanuatu); Graham Child (New Zealand); Grant Harrison (Australia).

 

The CGF General Assembly, taking place in Singapore on 14 and 15 November, will see Regional Meetings take place on the first day to elect six Regional Vice Presidents to the Board and six Sports Committee Members. The President and three Vice Presidents are then elected to the Board at the full General Assembly the following day.

 

President Dame Louise Martin, whose two terms of office come to a close at the General Assembly, said: “I’m delighted to see so many high calibre candidates wanting to play such a key role in the Commonwealth Games movement. Their willingness to serve reflects the huge enthusiasm and support for the Games that we have seen from around the world, particularly in the last few weeks.
