Awards Ceremony of the 9th Olympic Solidarity Advanced Sport Management Course

Colombo, 19 December 2024 – The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) celebrated the awards ceremony of the 9th edition of the Olympic Solidarity Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) on December 19, 2024, at ‘Hemasiri Fernando’ Auditorium, NOC Sri Lanka. The event was graced by Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest.

 

The ASMC, conducted under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity, spanned an intensive 14 months from August 2023 to October 2024. Designed to enhance the capabilities of sport administrators, the course featured seven sessions, each comprising two days, and covered six comprehensive modules: Organizing an Olympic Sport Organisation, Managing Strategically, Managing Human Resources, Managing Finance, Managing Marketing, Organizing a Major Sport Event.

 

This initiative served as a valuable platform for individuals affiliated with National Sport Associations and other organizations dedicated to the development of sport in Sri Lanka. A rigorous selection process was implemented, with 31 applicants undergoing one-on-one interviews and written assessments. Ultimately, 25 candidates were selected to participate, including one NOC Sri Lanka staff member and another candidate who was given the opportunity to complete sessions missed during a previous batch.

 

“NOC Sri Lanka has consistently showcased its unwavering commitment to the development of sports in Sri Lanka,” stated the Chief Guest during the ceremony. “Through impactful initiatives such as the ASMC, the NOC SL has played a pivotal role in promoting the Olympic Movement and reinforcing Olympic Solidarity within the country. Their dedication is truly commendable and continues to inspire the sports community in Sri Lanka.”

 

The course was expertly directed by ASMC Programme Director Mr. B.L.H. Perera and facilitated by a distinguished team of experts: Mr. Maxwell de Silva, Mrs. Lalitha Mendis, and Ms. Kinithi Jayatissa. Supporting the delivery of the sessions were Provisional Program Directors Ms. Eranga Fernando and Ms. Hansika Wijayagunasekara, ensuring a high standard of learning and engagement throughout the programme.

 

The awarding ceremony recognized the dedication and accomplishments of the participants. Each successful candidate was presented with a Diploma Certificate endorsed by the International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity. The certificates were awarded following a meticulous review of the comprehensive report submitted by the ASMC Programme Director, reflecting the participants’ exceptional commitment and the programme’s quality.

 

NOC Sri Lanka remains committed to its mission of strengthening the administrative and strategic capabilities of sport organizations through innovative and impactful educational programmes. The 9th edition of the ASMC stands as a testament to the committee’s unwavering dedication to empowering sport administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and inspire in the dynamic world of sports.
