Kalinga Kumarage gained first international experience at the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , where he dropped out of the run with the Sri Lankan 4 x 400 meter relay. The following year he was fifth with the relay at the Asian Championship in Wuhan and retired in the 400 -meter run with 47.56 s in the first round. In 2016 he won the silver medal with the season at the South Asian Games in Guwahati . At the Asian Champioship 2017  he won the men's relay in 3: 04.80 min the silver medal behind the team from India. In 2018 he took part in the Asian Games for the first timein Jakarta, where they finished eighth in the individual competition in 46.49 s and was fourth with the relay in 3: 02,74 min.  SLADA Imposes a tempory ban on Kalinga .
